A native of Puerto Rico, Tapia left San Juan in 1999 to study fashion at Parsons School of Design. She graduated in 2002 with a BFA in Fashion Design. During her sophomore year, she landed an internship with Marc Jacobs where she worked in women's apparel. Tapia accepted a position at Oscar de la Renta at the end of her junior year, where she worked for as Mr de la Renta’s apprentice. At the time, Mr. de la Renta was also at the helm of Balmain couture, providing Tapia with the unique opportunity to design in both New York and Paris. This led to a life-changing experience in working between New York, Florence, and Paris where Tapia honed her passion for footwear while working with some of the finest manufacturers in Tuscany. These experiences along with her entrepreneurial spirit led her to launch her eponymous line of footwear in 2013.
